Range result of salvaged rifle

While I did not have enough light to completely sight in the salvaged mountain rifle. I did have enough time to shoot several rounds and recover the patches. The patches were not shreded, So lapping the barrel with a lead slug (twice, once with grinding coumpound and the second slug with lapping coumpound ) salvaged the rifle with out the need to recut the rifling. So I managed to take a rusted up gun , free up and clean the triggers, lock, rebed the triggers and lock and lap the barrel. This restored a gun that had been total abused and rusted up. Now the man has a good quality rifle with an american made barrel.

Is the patch box held in with 2 screws or 4? the older models had 4, (we think).

Glad to hear you could save that bore. I too, would like to know what kind of groups you can get from her when ya get the chance :thumbsup:.

The patch box is held in with four screws. I'll try to get in some serious bench time as soon as I get a new nipple for the rifle. The origional CVA is burned out but was good enough to test for patch shredding which is what I wanted to know before doing more serious work on the bore.

From what I can see in the pic you posted it sure looks good compared to what you said it was. Hopefully it shoots as good as it looks. As I've mentioned before, I have an old CVA mtn rifle that the bore is really rough, it shoots better than I can, so I ain't gonna "fix" it.
