(since I'm changing subjects, starting a different thread)

I've found a decent used Rapine mold (for $70) that is actually in the hard to find .580 size. Anybody have opinions over this mold/and or how the mini bullet performs?

RAPINE 580/510 NEW STYLE

I've tried "googling" and searching this forum but I'm not having much luck. I'm tempted to commit but want to hear if anyone else has shot this one or used this type of mold.

A couple of years ago I purchased a little used Rapine .600" RB mold and was impressed with its quality. It cast easily and dropped perfect RB's once it got to the correct temperature. Unfortunately, it cast a bit large for my bbl. and, thus I sold it. Btw, Rapine molds had a sterling reputation.

Think I will go ahead and get it then, probably won't get another chance since that company is out of business and it is an odd size- Thanks! :)

I learned somewhere that the owner has scaled back operations and is still in business.

i've heard something similar on another forum. it was said that the owner is only making round ball molds now.

Ray Rapine was alive and well as of last Fall, I talked with him. He had stopped making molds a long time back and had sold off his business last year. I believe the new owner has product for sale but possibly in limited quantities. I have no contact info.

I don't know how that bullet performs but the mold will last forever and give you great service. My wife and I have been shooting his 315 grain wadcutter mini for 20 years now.
