Ok so RC sends me this...

carry bout same stuff..moreso up north...long way back to camp if ya don't have what ya need...thinkin on it... possible to have a pocket on the outside, covered by bag flap and have same size pocket on inside? (like using bag side fer divider) then ia divider thru middle of bag and couple pockets on the "back" side (inside the back side) PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME DRAW PICS!

jus the bag's flap for a cover..so... actually..startin from side against body...leather/2-pockets/1-deep/full divider/1-deep/1-pocket/leather/ 1-pocket....flap..make sense???..

So after reading it a couple times, I was pretty sure I knew what he wanted :rotf: and went to work on making a new pattern for this bag.

I had ordered some leather from a new place and as it turned out I somehow screwed up and the elk leather I thought I had ordered was actually cow. It's 5.5 oz and decided to build the bag with it anyway. We went with a lined bag this time too.

I first tackled the front panel with its two pockets. This proved to be a bugger trying to stitch 3 pieces of leather plus the welt for outside pocket. Did some cussing before it was done. :haha:

The rear panel pockets were easy compared to the front. :haha:

And the finished bag, I went with a one piece back panel/flap this time. We are waiting on straps from 7Days and will add them when I get them but the bag itself is ready to go. Measures right at 9 x 8.

:nono: Stay with the truth Swampy!
The truth is ya went to a palmist and she told ya what RC had in mind... :haha:

Great one Swampy - as always.

Hats off on a great job with a complicated build using such heavy leather. Heck, hats off for such a complicated build with ANY leather.

Just finished building a couple with too heavy leather (8 oz), but that's what I had on hand when the urge to build struck. Four layers of 1/8" leather adds up to 1/2" of leather you have to pierce, then sew. And once you're done, you still have to reverse the sucker, at least on the builds I did.

Yeegads. I don't care if I have to wait for more leather, but next time it's going to be nothing heavier than 4 oz for me, and maybe even 3 oz. Anyone ever build bags with 2 oz?

Sheesh. :surrender:

Omg Brownbear you ain't kiddin. I about cried after stitching this bag up and finding I couldn't turn it right side out. I tried a mallet and big wood dowel lol and couldn't budge it. Finally had to bite the bullet and pull half the stitches on one side, turn it right side out and then carefully stitch it back up. The mocc weight elk I usually work with is thicker but way more flexible and don't give me much of a problem when turning the bag right side out but this stuff sure is a bugger lol.

Anyway couple better pics for ya RC,

The first one I ended up soaking in water for 4 hours before it would turn. Good thing it wasn't lined!

The second one I smartened up a lot and did a lap seam instead. Took a little figuring, but that's what I'll do next time I'm possessed by evil spirits and decide to build with heavy leather.

Soon as my fingers and nerves get healed up I'm going to order a couple of whole hides of lighter leather. Just so's I won't ever be tempted over to the dark side of working with heavy leather. :surrender:

Well being a Brownbear your a lot stronger than me so you can have that thicker leather. :rotf:

This lighter stuff I use for inside pockets and edging is 3 to 4oz cow and probably would make a nice bag itself but just seems to thin to me.

neat!!! good job Swampy! :hatsoff: sorry bout the difficulty.....(but you'll understand me better as time goes on... :rotf: )

Really great bag Swampy. I thought I was having a flashback when you started talking about wooden dowels and a mallet. "Been there, done that" and it wasn't no fun! I had one here a while back I thought I was going to have to unstitch but just got a bigger hammer! :rotf:
