The Grayling black powder target rifle NRA regional championship was held this month in Michigan. The course of fire was 800-900 and 1000 yards. The X ring on the NRA LR target is 10 inches in diameter. Over both days of the match, [65 shots for score] there were only 2 people who got 6 X's. Both people are NRA national record holders so they could be considered better than average shots.
The point is.....EVERYBODY aimed at the X-ring, on every shot from the prone position using X-sticks at known distances but most of the time they didn't hit the X ring.
The moral of the story......easier said than done. Cheers Paul
I agree completely, it was indeed a lucky shot.

Well, except for the General.. :hmm:

Date-up.

Had a newsy long-range chat with Joe Polisar, who advised me that he and Steve regularly 'connect' at 1000 yards shooting at an 18" gong with their 600gr hexagonal bullet, and THEY will be trying to replicate that fateful shot sometime in the near future. Joe also mentioned a video and write-up - presumably for 'Muzzle-blast'.

So my posit wasn't altogether a waste of time and pricey powder after all. Whinemeal, here in yUK, I'll be making a few scaled-down targets to use on our short club range here - suitably disguised to conceal their anthropomorphic outline - and have at them with one of my old .22 rifles with a x2.5 scope.

I can always let a pal with a more suitable BP firearm share in the fun.

Best to all.

tac, stuck here, wishing he was in Oregon.
