Anybody rebarreled their New Englander to something new?
I'm considering having one rebored to use .512" or so diameter bullets from the usual off the shelf rifle molds. Relined to use "forty" caliber molds (.410 diameter bullets) is tempting as well. Turning one into a modern day analog of a long barreled "Volunteer" could be nice. Any how, thought I'd ask. I could see where fitting a long range peep might be a challenge.

I had Bobby Hoyt rebore a New Englader barrel to 52 cal. a few years back. .520 bore I had it all set up for shooting paper patched bullets. Sold it off due to not really like the New Englander stock geometry. Barrel turned nice and shot well.

Hi harleyboss. Side note...
Yep, I've done .52's and paper patches as well (Renegades). One is a percussion bench gun with a 38" barrel and the other a flintlock with 27" barrel. Need to get back into shooting patched .52's come spring and also with .515 round ball. As an aside to the side note, I'm kinda threatening to try lapping out a Lee fifty (.515" diameter) mold to see if I can get it up .520" cast diameter to load as lubed lead.

Mr. Hoyt has done one for me to shoot .458 rifle molds, it shoots great and I do like New Englanders. A longer barrel for .458 bullets would be better for further distances but the weight and feel of the factory length barrel is right for me.

At the moment I also have two .50 barrels (one of which somebody pyrodex'd) so there's stock to work with. Hopefully more will chime in on what they tried and how things worked out.

The t/c vernier sight fits. As does the vernier sight sold by track of the wolf Although the spacing is 1.5 inches on that one. I have one bored .58 by Bobby Hoyt. I’m planning to list that one for sale.
