Hey,I have rifle barrel that I would like to bore out 45 cal. And some where between 1-56 to 1-66 twist.
So I guess my question is does any one have any suggestions as to where I could find someone who would do what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help!

Bobby Hoyt is the man. I don't have his contact info but someone is sure to chime in with that.
Personally, I would go with the 1:48" twist. You will get you sweet spot with less powder and heavier charges for hunting will remain easily within 'minute of deer'.

Bob Hoyt 700 Fairfield Station Road, Fairfield, Pennsylvania, USA 17320, 717-642-6696

You may need to call several times as he's sometimes difficult to get ahold of.

Please post whatever info he tells you as I'm also considering getting an older barrel rebored (to 58 cal 1-70 round bottom rifling). Also ask about his turnaround time these days.

Make sure you have enough barrel wall thickness left after the bore-out under your dovetails. You might have to settle for a less conventional bore size. 44 is pretty conventional, but if you need a 42 then balls will be a little tougher to come by.

Ok, thanks for his contact info. I will contact him and try to get back to you.

I have considered that, I feel that the dovetail depth is not to deep.
If you would like to give your thoughts on the barrel strength here are the specs.
Barrel diameters-12/16=3/4"
Dovetail depth-.048"

Had Bobby Hoyt re-bore a one inch barrel from a 50 to a 58 radius bottom rifling last fall for $125. Max options with one inch TC barrel were 58 rifled or 62 smooth bore. Call and find out what he can do for you. His number is (717) 642-6696. He can be difficult to get hold of but does good work.

Ok,Thanks. He sounds pretty reasonable about prices.

I had Mr Hoyt rebore a TC 56 smooth bore to 20 ga. He does good work and the wait time was short.

Well one reason I am going to try to go with 45cal. is because 44 cal. is minimum legal bore diameter in Georgia.

So what caliber is it now?
What brand gun?

You might be able to trade it at little or no cost to you.
Just a thought.

It is 36 cal. right now.
And truth be told I do not know who made it.
The only markings on the gun are R. Driesbach
and under the barrel the words "old reliable".

It is very plain, I do not think it's made by "the" R Driesbach.
Sorry I cannot upload a pic because my device will not let me, have tried several times.
