A buddy of mine and I are thinking of going to either MT or WY to hunt deer and/or elk (undecided at the moment) in 2020. I live in San Diego CA and he lives in OR where we’ve been doing our hunting, so no way to do the scouting necessary prior to opener. Plus, we’re both a little past our prime climbing years, so a guide recommendation would be appreciated. I’ll be hunting with my Hawken .50, not sure if he will go ML I’m just getting him interested.

Can I come!!!!

I just moved back to Nevada from central Oregon, I know, I know... But I did not draw my tags in Oregon. And Nevada is a tough nut to crack for tags!

LOL - see what happens when you move to the desert! I'd like to say the more the merrier but John and I are only exploring the idea which seems like a good one. Since you know OR we go South of Bend for deer (didn't even see tracks last year) and then for Elk have been going to the NE corner of OR for spike only (haven't seen any of them for a while either). We're old guys that's why we're looking at a guided hunt. I think it's a matter of schedules and $$$ at the moment as we will probably do the OR hunts as well.

I was just teasing. :)

I was in Redmond but never got a chance to hunt, Never drew a tag there either. Seamed to me like most of the deer were in peoples yards.

Only saw a few elk in Central Oregon, not enough to get excited. I lived in North East Oregon almost 30 years ago and there was a lot of elk there back then!

Good Luck to you and your Buddy!! I expect to see pictures!

Might want to look up Greys River Outfitters and visit with Mike Clark about it.

Hope you find a hunt that suits you and good luck in the license draw.
I talked to him today, what a great guy! He helped me out with info on preference points, etc. Apparently, a mule deer tag is tough to get but better on bull elk and easy on cows. So, a great call and a real consideration. Thanks.

Bear hunt, but not the species you are after.
Our conversation was good. In thinking about it, I don’t think he was overwhelmed with the idea of me hunting with my ML. Also, my buddy and I are not spring chickens so he was thinking we should hunt out of the lodge rather than than the camp. However, I really like the idea that they are a bit more out of the mainstream rather than than closer to Yellowstone and Jackson.

The last time Greenmtnboy was on the forum was on Oct 15, 2018.

He would only see a message on the forum if he visited us because the forum's messages are not sent out on E-Mail to the person.

Bottom line? Don't hold your breath. He might never come back.
