Recommendations on good way to attach horn strap to horn

Hello All,

I obtained a woven horn strap and would like to attach it to my horn but gather that there are better ways than others to accomplish this (so it will hold). My horn is of the beehive type with the wood acorn. Any suggestions what has worked for you are greatly appreciated!

Attaching a piece of leather with a couple thongs works well.

Some just tie the strap to the horn.

In my case, I sewed some ties above the ends of the strap.

Since my woven strap was made with loose warp or tassels at the end, I sewed leather patches a few inches up and connected those to the horn with leather thongs.

I have had poor luck with leather thongs. They stretch with time and I have nearly lost horns as a result.
Artificial sinew sticks also. It looks artificial and the knots slip unless you burn them. And looks even worse.

On my horn above, I actually used strips of buckskin, not the typical "thong". It's been tied like that for about ten-years with no loosening of slipping.

Another little thing, is to rub some bee's wax into the thong or other leather attachments. Helps keep a knot "set" tight!

Almost 50 years of fixing and trying. Recently, best results have been with hemp twine. But, ask the experts for really good info.

That staple on the tip of some horns. Years ago I thought you were supposed to tie to the staple and then I was told no, have the thong go around the tip, the staple just controls how the horn hangs. Well, that's true enough but when you think about it, the staple also keeps a loose thong from slipping off the tip of the horn. Never thought about that before.
