Anyone that can recommend a versatile percussion smoothbore that won't break the bank? I'm flexible on most detail, I just want to hear your recommendations.
Loyalist arms .Pedersoli and CVA doubles show up here in the classifieds regularly for sale in the $500-$800 range. TC New Englanders show up from time to time along with TC Renegade as .56 smooth bores. $300-$400 smooth bore percussion are rare.

My purpose would be target shooting and primarily hunting. I think you make a good point, because I believe the minimum gauge for deer is 20, and since the 56 is smoothbore, it is smaller than 20 gauge. What is your intended purpose?
If hunting, what are your state's regulations? Some have minimum and maximum gauge size for different species.
For example, if you live in a state that requires a gauge no smaller than 20 gauge, a .56 smoothbore Renegade will do you no good.
Muzzleloading regulations are generally different than modern shotgun regulations. My purpose would be target shooting and primarily hunting. I think you make a good point, because I believe the minimum gauge for deer is 20, and since the 56 is smoothbore, it is smaller than 20 gauge.
I'm not an expert on the law, certainly not for other states, but, I would be surprised if the .56, smooth or not, isn't allowed for deer.My purpose would be target shooting and primarily hunting. Was it a good experience?I hunted deer with a .55 smoothbore muzzleloader for years. I don't think I was breaking the law
I agree with your insights. For waterfowl, might have to stuff it with either bismuth or hevi-shotI'm not an expert on the law, certainly not for other states, but, I would be surprised if the .56, smooth or not, isn't allowed for deer.
Turkey you may have an issue legally, again depending on the state, and for ducks you might be legal but lack efficiency.
For deer with ball and squirrels/rabbits with shot, .56 should be great.
Yes. The gun shot like a rifle to 70 yards. Was it a good experience?
Awesome, what was your load of choice?Yes. The gun shot like a rifle to 70 yards.
I’ve had one for over 40 years. Great gun with shot, with round balls, not so much.Anyone have thoughts on the T/C new englander 12 gauge
55gr 3f, .020 patch and .530 ball. This gun had a 48 inch barrel and I could still see back then.Awesome, what was your load of choice?
Barrel Manufacturer ?55gr 3f, .020 patch and .530 ball. This gun had a 48 inch barrel and I could still see back then.
Inaccurate? I've heard the wood stocks can crack with round ball but that didn't make sense to me. It can push an ounce and a half of shot but not a round ball??I’ve had one for over 40 years. Great gun with shot, with round balls, not so much.
