Well the patch is in place, and I'm working on getting the side tab of the patchbox inletted into the mortice. And it is a holy bugger to get in...still wondering how I'll screw it in place. I suppose I can drill the holes at an angle...or burn the screw holes into the wood...

Why didn't anybody tell me that building these things was hard? *LOL*

right angle drill?

I have one of those side hinged PBs in my box of parts...

My Dremel, has a 90 degree accessory head. You remove the chuck, and it fits right on. I leave it on all the time, and have another Dremel with standard chuck. Handiest thing ever. You can drill, on a flat surface more accurate, because it handles better. I also have a third Dremel, with the quick detach system. Can't have too many, Dremels, I say.

Is there a ledge on the hinge side? The vertical surface should be straight down....no ledge. Some angle the surface that the hinge plate is screwed to for better access. I've made right angled screw drivers from Allen wrenches and the blades are at different angles. Also...have always burned the holes in.

The hinge plate towards the Bplate gets a little tricky....look the situation over carefully. Below are couple of side openers...hope it helps some.....Fred

Fred that's not a ledge. I'm inletting the hinge plate straight down, but I'm doing it by applying transfer color and marching the hinge plate into final position a micron at a time. I still have about an eight of an inch of wood to remove before it is in its final position.

Demel 575 right angle drill attachment, can be seen on Youtube, cost $20. at Ace Tool.

Your doing good...don't let mistakes put you off. That when the creativity starts.....learning tools, and results are what it's all about.....and a fella told me once.....your not satisfied till about your 10th gun.....and he's right....I'm almost there....and I'm still ****** at myself on some areas of my work!

But that's ok.....I'm working toward the apex of my work.....a swivel breach double flinter..... :youcrazy:

Yeah.....I may have to have 2 kats in the shop to do THAT project!!!!

I had a full time gun engraver that worked for me in my shop for many years, I asked him once if he ever made a mistake, he said no but sometimes he would change his design.

The mark of master craftsmen is how they deal with the mistakes.
