Remington capper

Just want to say I took my Remington 1858 out last week for the first time. Man what a blast. BUT what does everyone use to get the caps on their Remington's. The capper I have fits the Colt clones but not the Rem.36 I had to put each cap on by hand.Thanks in advance

I use both the tear drop and inline capper's for both my 58 and the 60. When the nipples get dirty I use a delrin flat paddle to seat them all the way on after a quick tooth brush cleaning.

I just use my caper as a magazine for caps. I place them on by hand.

I got fed up using my fingers so i modified the cylinder which means i can use my Tedd cash snail capper.

Right, there is a "modification" that's done to the Rem's
Basically it's useing a dremel tool with a grinding or sanding wheel to open the notch by the nipples so you can actually get in there.
I've done this, but still need an in-line capper to get nipples on with my club fingers.
The thing I don't like is those kind of cappers only hold 12 caps or so,,

Thanks to everyone who replied. I thought possibly I was doing something wrong but I guess I wasn't. So for now I'll continue putting them on by hand til I come up with a plan B. Thanks again

I modified my cylinder with a dremel, opening up the shield around the nipples so I can use a standard capper. There's a video on youtube somewhere showing the modification.

In any case, you can clearly see (in the video) the way the openings around the nipples have been half-mooned to give access.

We use a Ted Cash Universal Straight Line Capper with no problems on a Pietta Remmy.

I find trying to load the capper the most frustrating parts of cap & ball shooting.
I usually give up and use my fingers and seat them with a short dowel for safety.

What caps are you using with that Ted Cash capper? I've been using Remington #10s and some are too tall to slide freely within the capper.

I'm glad you posted this thread. I just bought two inline cappers. One from Track of the Wolf and one that's a Thompson Center brand.

Neither one works very well with either the Pietta 1851 Confederate .44 or the Pietta 1858 Remmy .44.

To me, it seems to be more the cappers than the guns. I'm gonna watch the video that was posted.

I was looking at Ted Cash' web site and that inline Universal capper doesn't work well with #10 caps. I did watch that video where he took a dremel to his cylinder but I don't think I want to do that to mine.I can't believe no one has designed a capper for #10 caps on a Remmie.

The TC Star Capper will fit the Pietta Remington .44 so it should also work just fine with the Pietta Remington .36. But it still requires using your fingers to fill it with caps one at a time.
Also if #10 Remingtons aren't used, the caps are liable to not stay on to the factory nipples when attempting to seat them because #11's are too loose. But the Remington #10's do seem to fit perfectly.
It also doesn't work well with pinched #11 caps, but only with the Remington #10's or caps that fit the nipples perfectly snug.
