I knew Marshal and have held the rifle in question. It looked pretty conventional. But the breech plug may have been loose. I dunno. :idunno: That 'feature' was never a subject of conversation. Lotsa stories about that rifle. I hope the various mysteries are never solved. Too much fun to cuss and discuss about.
 
If it was loose enough to be unscrewed with the fingers it would be easily seen; the stock would have been burned black by escaping gas at the breach. Hard to tell about Daniel Boone's face but the same could likely have been said for it - a little singed. :wink:
