Bought a .36 Cal. Cabelas Blue Ridge Flinter clearance and frizzen was really soft and didn't fit well! Turned the gun sideways and powder would spill out of the poor fitting frizzen base and pan. Sent it off to be warranteed by a Gentleman on their warranty list and box was destroyed when it got to him, and lock was lost...... suposedly at least... Kinda wierd!

Bought a replacement L&R from T.O.W. (that's a "direct" replacement) and does not fit. The main screw hole is 1/4" forward which is FAR from center of flash hole and center of frizzen pan, would have to re-inlet and have HUGE gaps around and will NOT work with pre-drilled screw holes, bottom line, we cannot get to work no matter how half butted we try it!

Any Ideas on what to do with a replacement lock? I'd really like a HIGH END LOCK. I like the gun and fit's me just perfect! I have Javelina season coming on Feb 10th that I'd love to use this gun for. The stock lock really sucked!!! It worked but frizzen was soft, not realy square to pan/barell, and kinda slow. But it did work with the right sized flint.

I got a replacement lock for my Traditions way back when, and I had the same problem with the screw holes. I had to drill and tap my own holes in to the lock plate to get it to fit. I'd do the same to yours if it'll work.
 
Call Cabelas in Sidney, they have a guy there that takes care of the pedersoli repairs and he has all of the parts to replace with. I can't remember his name but he does fixes all of the return guns. The Owatonna store used to have a big tackle box with tons of parts in them to handle repairs and it had several locks in it for Pedersoli but don't think they have it anymore and they send the guns to the guy in Sidney for repair.
Anyway call them and they should be able to track the lock down for you.
 
Which L&R lock did you buy?

I have a Blue Ridge in 54 cal. that has a very heavy trigger pull and I was looking for a replacement lock that would have a lighter trigger pull.

I sent an email to L&R asking if they had a lock to replace my Pedersoli. The reply said RPL Model 6 would fit with a little internal wood removal.

The 36 and 54 apparently have the same locks according to the parts list on the Pedersoli website so I am concerned that the replacement would not fit my 54.

The only difference I see is the 36 and the 54 both have the same weight listed so I think the 36 must have a thinner barrel (13/16 vs. 7/8 for the 54). I don't think this will make any difference but...
 
I think you are better off, in this case, to just get a new Pedersoli lock. I have four Pedersoli's and they are all spark meiesters! :thumbsup:
You apparently got a bad one. :( It happens.
The springs are very strong on every Pedersoli I have tried, however. :cursing:
The L&R is a great lock, too, but if it don't fit, it don't fit. So just how much are you willing to do to make it so. :hmm: Especially if you can get a new original lock?
 
sounds like you got the wrong lock for her. I would return it. I my self would see if pedrsoli would replace the lock. or you could just get a after market frizzen... or find a gunsmith to harden the one you have.
 
Sorry for your loss, that sucks, hope the package was insured. I don't believe L&R nor anyone else does build a replacement to fit the Blue Ridge, maybe some Pedersolis but not the Blue Ridge, which is a very large lock. I'd try Cabelas first, if no success there then Pedersoli USA. Unfortunatly Pedersoli parts are very expensive relative to the cost of the finished gun. IIRC $140.00 comes to mind. My own Blue Ridge I've owned for maybe 20 years is the best flintlock I've ever owned, every bit a fast and reliable as my Chambers Delux Siler.

The locks do interchange among the different calibers of Blue Ridge and I think perhaps the Blue Ridge locks interchange with the Yeager lock but no other Pedersoli guns.
If the only issue is a heavy trigger pull it would be much cheaper to have a gunsmith lighten the pull than to buy a complete new lock. That is a simple issue which any gunsmith, even one not acquainted with muzzleloaders could accomplish.
 
Ok thanks guys, guess I'll look at getting another Ped lock. I can't remember where but when I priced the replacement lock before it was around $175.00! Geez, and the L&R was around $138.00 so it was a no brainer at the time, plus an upgrade.

I bought the RPL 06 which is designed and supposed to fit the Ped Frontier, Hatlfield, or the Cabelas Blue ridge rifle. It is designed to be an upgrade but won't work! I'd have to wallow the heck out of my hole in my stock and inlet some of it and would be a cruddy fit.

I guess I'll send it back and try to find the Ped. lock at a decent price then. Thanks for the tip on the guy from Sidney, I'll look into that first.

BTW I did have insurance for this lock. When I filed the insurance claim online it asked me which category the item was in. I chose firearm because it was the closest thing to this. Well since I chose firearm they accused me of shipping a gun and IMMEDIATELY DENIED my claim even though the description was a flintlock lock only. Kinda stunk, not only lost my lock, but got screwed by USPS and had to pay a new lock out of pocket to buy this lock :barf:
 
Hey Blackfoot, I called down to the Sidney store and spoke to a guy in guns. He said there is nobody there that works on or repairs guns or muzzleloaders. He's never of of one. Wonder if he's mistaken or maybe they don't do that anymore?
Was is an offsite gunsmith or something?
 
This is just a thought but Chambers sells a lock with a square plate that you can cut to what ever shape you need to fit your mortise. But I don't know if all the internals would line up the same. Chambers might be able to tell you. Hope you find something that works. Dew

My bad - It was the distribution center down there. I used to work for Cabelas a couple 13 14 years ago and they have a guy at the DC that took care of all the returns and waranty repair work and he has everything there to do waranty work, its part of them being a distributer/dealer for pedersoli. I will try and email a friend down there who runs all of the gun libraries and se if they still have parts and who to contact.
 
I think I would follow up the insurance claim by phone. I am a FFL holder, who uses USPS for all my shipping. There is no restriction on shipping muzzleloaders, either whole or in part. Per Federal regs ML's are not considered firearms. Good Luck. Sounds like your misfortune has snowballed.
 
Thanks L.H. This happened in April of 2010, tried to follow up but they denied me. Was very frustrated with the whole situation and gun! Bought the new L&R (out of pocket again) and it didn't fit, so I put the gun in the closest and said screw it out of frustration.

Any chance I could still appeal or try to have them reimburse me at this point? What should be my courseof action? I was in the right, bought insurance and they were in the wrong I know, but shot me down. Thanks for any help or info, I'm still kinda mad about this, especially after shipping with them, buying insurance, filing a claim and doing by the books.
 
If you bought insurance, you have a written contract you are trying to enforce. The Statute of Limitation for enforcing contracts tends to be fairly long when a Written Contract is involved.

Talk to a local lawyer about it. He will advise you about your state's Statute of Limitations.

Most states have BAD FAITH statutes that award consumers added money damages when insurance companies deny claims in bad faith. Ask the lawyer about that aspect, too.

Normally,a lawyer may charge a small fee to speak to you about your claim, examine your documentation, and perhaps do some brief research. If he thinks you have a case, and your state has a statute that imposes punitive damages against Insurance companies for acting in bad faith, he will arrange to work with you on your fees, with the expectation that when the case is won, the amount of the punitive damages will pay all of his fees, and leave you something extra for your troubles. Any retainer you pay him will be reimbursed when the money is received for the judgment or settlement. You make all decisions concerning any settlement of your claim. (S)He can recommend you settle, or not, and give you his opinion of the evidence as all of it is disclosed through pre-trial discovery, but you make the final decision to go to trial, or accept a settlement offer.

if there is no state statute that regulates how Insurance companies behave, and all you can recover is the value of a replacement action, I am sure that most attorneys would not want to proceed further, unless a fee agreement paying them at an hourly rate for their time was entered into by you with them. Under such circumstance, I would advise the client( and have many times) to save their money on my fees and go pay to have their problem fixed with the money they don't pay me.

There are some lawyers, and law firms that bleed their clients for all the money they can get from them, not telling them up front that the client doesn't have much of a case and is not likely to recover. I have been in trials with lawyer whose clients lost, only to hear the lawyer telling the client( in the hallway, later, it was all the fault of the JUDGE- never admitting that the lawyer should have never pursued the case to trial. And during my now more than 39 years of practice, I have had a number of clients come to me to complain about how much another attorney charged them for his services- and he did nothing, or at least nothing close to what he promised them when he was hired. There are other state agencies that hear complaints against lawyers from the public, usually supervised by the State Supreme Court in each state. That information may be of use to some of you who believe that you have been wronged by your own lawyer.
 
So the screw that holds the lock in is a 1/4 inch farther forward? I'd fit the lock in the mortice and re drill and tap for another screw to hold in the lock. You may have to use an escutcheon on the offside to hide the old screw hole...........IF that lock will not fit your Blue Ridge mortice with little inletting then L&R sent you the wrong lock. They make a RPL for the Blue Ridge.

Is the lock you received marked in any way to identify it as a RPL Model 6 ? Maybe the guy in the shipping department reached into thew wrong bin.
