How many of you use Slix Shot nipples? I recently got a set and immediately discovered that they are slightly longer that the stock nipples. I started by using #10 CCI caps but they would not fit properly and interfered with advancing the cylinder. Then I used #11 Remington caps which fit quite nicely. Because they are slightly longer I cannot get my capper to install caps easily. I ended up having to place caps manually (PITA). Any good capper solutions out there? The nipples helped a little bit with cap jams but I have a lot of work to do getting my pistol jam free. I have posted about paper jams, cap jams but a third post is coming regarding accuracy.

I use a Ted Cash snail capper which works fine using #1075 plus RWS, #10 or #11 Remington caps. While I don't have a 1851 I have used Slix-Shot nipples on my 1860, Dragoons and Walkers and while I still get the occasional cap jams I just remove the piece and continue on shooting.

I would love to get the Slix shot nipples for my percussion revolvers, but it seem they will not ship to Norway! Any ideas where it wold be possible to order them?
Regarding cappers, i have worn out my Ted Cash capper but I found this Swedish capers to work very well. Please check my video on them:

You might search eBay for a seller willing to ship to Norway.

Slixshot nipples are made to work with Remington #10 caps. I have tested extensively and found the CCI #11 works fairly well. RWS 1075 are just a bit small for the cone shape and usually require a second strike. The CCI#10 cap is too small and, for me, did not work at all.
Having said that all of my hand guns, which are of the open top Colt type, are set up with Slixshot nipples and all run almost completely cap jam free.
Respectfully sumitted

From the SLIX website -
" SliXshot Nipples work BEST with Remington #10, CCI #11, Winchester #11 and RWS 1075 Caps. Available for Uberti, Pietta, Ruger Old Army, Walker and Dragoon percussion revolvers: .36, .44 and .45 Caliber. 1851 through 1861 Models. "
Use a pusher when capping and you won't need second strikes. And the caps will stay where they belong.
I cut these from a wood dowel - put a slight angle on one end and they work perfectly for seating the caps properly.
IMHO - the SLIX are the best nipples around for revolvers. Simply said - they work.

Thanks for the report. I put Slix Shot nipples on two of my Pietta Colts but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I'll make sure to have different caps and cappers to experiment with.

The best capper I have found for those tight and tiny revolvers is the Ted Cash.
I see posts all the time about grinding the cylinders to open that up - not gonna happen on my guns..... especially when the proper cappers are available.

Shot my Pietta 1860 .44 Army yesterday using Remmy #10 caps on Slixshot nipples. No capping problems, no cap jams either. A Tedd Cash snail capper must be tweaked a bit to work. Also on some guns the cut in the recoil shield needs to be t be deepened.
The snail capper will easily hold a full can of caps and is easy to load. Much faster than a loading a straight line capper.
Respectfully submitted

My experience exactly.

Check out the Polish Capper.
I've only used mine a few times, but the way it's made, you place and set the cap at the same time.
You can push down on the capper to set the cap, and don't need the extra cap setter.
They're pricey, and it isn't easy ordering one from Poland, but it was worth the effort, in my opinion.
And you get neat Polish postage stamps on the package, too!
And the owner thanks you on their web page!
I like mine. YMMV.

The Polish capper was interesting - until I saw the price - I bought 3 of the Ted Cash for what one of those cost......
And after you add shipping - you can make it 5 of them.

All my percussion gun with two exceptions have Slixshot nipples. The Slixshot is made especially to fit Remington #10 caps and work very well there. CCI#11 work most of the time. However RWS 1075 caps are fairly consistent only on second strike.but not on the first strike. Great dry fire practice. How's your flinch?
I changed to a factory mainspring on a Pietta 1860 Army to test if that harder strike would make a difference
It did not and original factory mainsprings are extremely strong. So I use #10's for serious business and CCI #11 for fun.

Now the issue is getting these caps. There is no place locally where I can buy them and going on line they make you pay about double the price just for hazmat shipping. 😒

Then there is the powder shortage. Our sport and hobby is getting more expensive.
