From my tc Hawken 54 I was having good results with 80grs 2F and 530 patch round ball out to 100 yds. And same charge with a Lee REAL boolit and felt wad between powder and boolit. I tried 100gr charge but recoil was angry. I do have some 420gr Maxi's which work well also but haven't gotten passed 50 yds. 80grs 3F with prb from my 50 TC Firestorm groups 3.5" at 100.

You left out some critical information - how big is the "black" you are talking about? 2", 6", 12"?
