Well, what’s good for me ain’t necessarily good for the weak minded.

To each his own as to the empty cylinder. If you are being very physically active with a single
action at a high consequence event with people everywhere, then leaving the hammer on the
empty is extra caution. Many men I respect observe the load five rule. As for using a BP for
personal protection, if such a need occurred, you would need to be experienced with the
piece and then shoot well under the instant stress of it. From experience, I can tell you that
most shots fired in a gunfight are wasted and excessive. Taking fast cover is the key. The vast
majority of gunfights end with just a few shots fired. If it cannot be avoided, then be the first
and the top gun tackdriver. Whether a Glo--k or an old Single Action no one can survive a
well placed lethal round. Just about any gun beats having your fist with a mean look against an
armed assailant.

You are aware that most chain fires occur from loose caps or uncapped charged cylinders right? That is not good for you or anyone near you! Being ignorant does not make you weak minded ! If you stay ignoarant after hearing the truth then you might have an arguement!

The issue is not spelling it's gun safety. If you have sense enough to listen you might keep from hurting yourself or some one near you!

I got jumped all over yesterday because I load 5 to be extra safe. Didn't know there was anything wrong with it till they enlightened me. But I swear I've changed my ways on it from now on..

I ain’t changing to suit any of you. I’ve was carrying a Navy Six when you people were in diapers.
Just a matter of time, if you actually do shoot regularly in the conditioned described, before you have a chain fire from that uncapped charged cylinder ! Actually chain fires seldom seriously hurt anyone or wreck the gun but the potential is always present. You may have to change your shorts!

EXACTLY why would an uncapped charge hole be more prone to a chain fire than a capped one?? How many more theories are out there and how few facts?

It's not theory, it is fact! If you have ever seen slo-mo photography from the amount of fire in and around the cones at each discharge you would see the reason most chain fire is caused from the back end rather than the chamber mouth. Even when not using wads or grease( which is almost universal) there is more blocking fire from getting to the charge from the front end than the back.

Exactly, take a cap in the dark and fire it off. COOL...lotta sparks, will make you a super hero with the boys. NOW fire a fully loaded chamber. Is there any extra fire/flame? Think maybe that amount of extra fire and flame above and beyond and more than and over and OMG than a cap just might set off a loaded chamber with no cap covering the cap hole? I vote yes and sooner than latter and please warn me before you try this.

Have an acquittance who loaded 6, revolver was in an open holster.

Sapling limb partially cocked the hammer and dropped it on the loaded chamber. He was shot in the thigh. Luckily it did not shoot his horse.

He now loads only five and his revolver is now riding in a totally enclosed holster.

Accidents do happen.

All my guns are empty until im ready to shoot them. Thats it. The exception, if its called that, is preloading cylinders and mags which are carried outside the gun until ready to use. The only thing I believe about safeties is releasing a safety on a loaded gun thats already pointed down range and ready to go.

I’m so very sorry that I haven’t been inside looking at movies about shooting. I have been outside shooting my percussion revolvers in the back pasture as well as carrying one properly loaded for years. I simply do not have chainfires. Your answer was as expected. No hard facts, no evidence, only conjecture from a keyboard shooter whose type perpetuates
forums of this type. If you are talking about blowback through the nipple, that’s kinda obvious to start with. I have to say that when we have our Flintlock Frolic weekend around the fire down by the creek on my place that the comments from this forum are the source of much laughter and amusement. I bet you boys live in apartments in town and pay to shoot at a public range.
