So you have no photographs to show what you are referring to? Plus what unsolicited cleaning advice are you referring to?

For what it is worth, have a number of Rice barrels that I regularly shoot. Service and responses have been quick and professional when requested. My barrels. No observed or noted erosion. Now I have seen crud rings in multiple manufacturers’ barrels, but erosion has not been a problem in any of them. I don’t shoot as much as some. Probably burn only 30 pounds or so of blackpowder each of the past few years. With my limited number of shots, have found crud ring to be result of load combinations (projectile, powder, charge, lubricants and bore finish for example). Yet to see bore erosion in a blackpowder muzzleloader. Now with my smokeless Milsurp guns I have bore gauges and use a borescope. Bore erosion in those guns is obvious. But not a topic for this forum.
Crud rings I believe cause a tight spot this is a loose spot. Second it's not my place to tear the guys barrel down. All I asked was if anybody had a similar problem. I obviously don't have as much experience as you I only go through 25lbs plus what I win.

"All three had contacted rice and we're basically told to pound sand."

I would like to see the written response from Rice where all three (3) were told to pound sand. That would provide evidence of, "Poor service seems to get around." else wise just unwarranted accusations.

Again, photos would be the proof in the pudding, other wise just a waste of time.

I have not experienced this with my Rice, 45 cal, 44”, straight cut swamped barrel. I will say it’s one of my best barrels for accuracy, ease of loading without swabbing, and quick clean-up.

No proof or pictures, "pound sand" and a waste of time!

Oh, by the way, breaches

  1. 1.
an act of breaking or failing to observe a law, agreement, or code of conduct.
    "a breach of confidence"

    2.
a gap in a wall, barrier, or defense, especially one made by an attacking army.
"a breach in the mountain wall"

The science of metallurgy will tell you the process of extruding the barrel material could have created a problem. If no names would have been used it could be put up for debate. The best thing about these forums are the sharing of ideas, the worse thing are the dropping of names and throwing them on the ceiling to see if they stick.

They do not extrude to form the bore. It is drilled and reamed. I’m guessing you mean the round stock they use as starting material? Not sure how that would cause a defect after drilling and reaming.
Either way they should send the barrels to me for shipping costs. I’ll recut them lands and grooves ever so slightly till each barrel is uniform end to end. Even add a little choke at the muzzle. Then build new rifles with them!
