Foxfire 5 book has a lot of information about building flintlocks, including barrel making. Even if you dont find the information you are looking for its good reading material for winter.

In June the NMLRA Gunsmithing seminar at WKU celebrated it's twentyfifth anniversary! I have really mixed feelings when I think about it.

So many folks now involved in rifle building, and especially in sharing their knowledge openly though message boards, have attended one or more of those classes. I really believe that the seminar has helped change the culture away from one of "I learned it the hard way and so can you."

On the other hand, I am saddened by all of those involved with the seminar that are now dead. John Bivins, Lynton McKenzie, Lou Schanchez, Dave Wagner and on and on.

I have been asked to write an article for MB covering the entire 25 years and I hope to work on it this winter. If any of your reading this have pictures, especially of some of the afore mentioned instructors, from the seminar that you would like to share you can scan and email them to me at [email protected]. (To be of publishable quality the scans need to be at 300 dpi or higher.) If we use your picture you will be credited.
