Awhile back we had a thread on building a simple rifle bench based on a couple of upright, braced 2X4s. I built one, and although I have yet to build a muzzleloader on it I cannot tell you how wonderful it is for rifle work. I have used it to clean up a 1903 Springfield, to tweak a trapdoor, to fit a stock on a Martini, and best of all it is perhaps the world's bets rifle cleaning device. It will hold your rifle firmly at a convenient height where you can really get after it cleaning out the crud. I don't know how I have messed about with guns for so many years without this invaluable tool, and it only took a couple of hours and some scraps to build.
Do yourselves a favor guys and build one.

I put one together using scaps I had in my garage and I love it! It sure makes working on my GPR much easier.

I have a post vise mounted to a tire rim that I use in a similar manner. I rest the forestock on another vise on my work bench.

You are right, quite handy.

This has been posted here before, but here's the bench.

Here are a couple of pics of the bench that I put together:

I built it from scrap wood in my garage. The only parts I purchased were one leather belt from Goodwill, the dowel, eye bolt, washers and nut.
