Wow! That is nice work. Deer everywhere will be saying "Field dress me. Field dress me Wick!"

Simple and beautiful, very pleasing lines.

I hope all will be well with you in short order.

CARL, there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the guy doesn't represent it as being his blade. There is a lot of work involved in making a nice grip and fittings, and, even if he did not make the blade, he had to pay for it, and much depends on the cost and time he has to put out to make it a whole knife. If it is a blade of any real quality, it all evens out. Even if the blade is of questionable quality, but the customer is satisfied, what can you say? Chuck Burrows does a lot of this type of work, but he tells you up front that someone else, that he has confidence in, made the blade. Chuck has all the skills to make a fine blade, and has, but he prefers to leave that to someone else, and just do the finish, and leather work he is justly famous for. It all comes down to whether a person doing this is being truthful, and ethical about it. I do trust that your post is not an implication that I would do what you seem to imply. If my name is on the blade, I assure you that I made it. I make my blades from the steel bar, right on through the heat treat, but I am not above copying something I really like, especially if I think I can make it better. I stated that I copied this one, but so did the guy I copied it from. I can give you a number of references if you question my word. No, sorry, I don't think I would bother.

I don't question your word or your ability to get free advertising from posting your new knives on as many forums as you can. Have a nice day. :hatsoff:

Wow wick I'm drooling all over my keyboard thats great looking you sure do wonderfull work !! :hatsoff: Hope all goes well for you after your surgery

Carl: What the heck is this all about?? You sound like you are green with envy!

Wick does great work, and his pictures serve both to educate us about various styles, and, of course, lets people know what he makes. If they want to have him make something, that is between them and Wick. Its none of our business. I don't believe that Wick is using this forum as " free Advertising " for his work. From his posts explaining how to heat treat various items, I don't think its in his character to engage in cheap commercialism. He is a real treasure here.

I just finished reading how he makes his unique, center seam sheaths for his knives. I saw a custom knife with this kind of sheath many years ago when I was a boy, in a gunshop in Brookfield, Illinois. As much as I liked the knife- it was another work of art-- I was more fascinated by the leatherwork. I finally have learned how its done, thanks to Wick. Until his post, I didn't know how he got the seam flattened.

To my way of thinking, You owe him an apology.

Perhaps you're right. I do apologize.

Yes, the craftsmen here do answer qustions and go to great effort to show their technique and describe the work they put into their products.

It just struck me as odd that almost every topic started by some of the craftsmen are a showing of their new product. This is easily checked by clicking 'find topics by this user'.

I'll not comment further about them.

Thankyou, Carl. I accept. However, think about it this way. Why would anyone show off an item, already shown, unless to make a pertanent point regarding another item, or subject. Claude has strict rules about the wording used in a post such as mine, Mike Brooks, or LaBontes, or others that sell their work. We try to abide by Claudes rules, which I think fair, and adequate. Acually, you might be surprised at the amount of "amatuers" that sell on this board also. That is another reason we have PM's. When I show a new knife, there is no appreciable difference between me and an amatuer, especially if the reader is new, and does not know me, or my work. Stuart Willis makes really nice tomahawks, and he is in the business of selling them, and when he posts his work, I want to see it. I am not likely to buy one, as I am happy with the hawk I own, but I enjoy seeing his, and I don't want him to stop. If the day comes that no one is allowed to show his new stuff because he may sell it to another board member, that's the day I would leave this board. I present my new items, just as an amatuer would present his. If I get out of line, Claude will surely tell me. That's the way Claude intended it to be, and the way it should be. It is his board. I do not solicit other members, but if I am contacted, it is in private, or I answer in private. Many amatuers are doing the same. I often post my work just to see what reaction it gets. It is more a testing of possible consumer demand, likes, or dislikes, than advertising. It gives me an idea of how that item may do in the outside market. I sell at a few chosen events throughout the year, and evaluating the reactions to my offerings from different members of various boards, helps me decide on what items I should concentrate on. I would still make knives, if I had to give them away. That is just my thing. But I reached the level of skill to be able to sell my work many years ago. I certainly do not make a lot of money at it. I would guess at maybe $12.00 an hour per knife after expenses, but it keeps me from having to be a Walmart door greeter. Nothing against those who are, but it just ain't my thing.

As far as I am concerned Wick has nothing to be apologizing to at all! He has freely on repeated occasions helped folks with all kinds of questions here, and off topic, regarding many subjects!

His work is beautiful and anyone of us here would be proud to show ours off (and we do .. bad as some of mine is) :shocked2:. I commend him and his work and I for one wanna thank him! :hatsoff:

I consider Wick a true asset here and a selfless craftsman that shares his knowledge with all of us! Nuff said!

I think you miss the point of this part of the forum . This a place for us to discuss our projects or wanna be projects and to collect info from diff people on maybe how to do something or improve what we have done. We like to see what a good craftperson can make , and maybe its something we want for our collection or to model our own project from then so be it. We need folks like Wick and others to keep us going and thinking

that's really beautiful :hatsoff:

I will seriously have to get some cutlery from you before too long
