Rifle with nipple changed to small pistol primer, inline type?

My question is if a rifle, hammer type, was fitted with an inline type nipple for small pistol primers, would that have necessitated drilling out and re tapping the hole, thus making it difficult if not impractical to go back to a std nipple?

Do you mean a mag-spark nipple? They should not require retapping the drum as they are made as a direct replacement for CVA or TC or common threads.

Could be, I dont know, have never seen anything on a hammer rifle but std or musket nipples. I will look that up. Thanks.

I looked that up and yes I believe thats what it is. They use shotgun primers I guess and advise against using pistol primers.
