Do your recovered balls from your PRB hunting loads show rifling engraving marks on them?

I have one that shows flat regions where the lands pressed the lead in, and the cotton weave is over the rear half of the ball pressed into the lead. This one entered the front of a deer and lodged in the hip. It never hit bone.

I been dying to try this. My new $50 ebaY digital camera (an HP C618 PhotoSmart . . . now a dinosaur). Only 2MP, but a good Pentax lens.

You can see the weave pattern where the lands flattened the circumference. 0.490" ball and 0.020" patch in a T/C New Englander. Ball is slightly flattened and now mics 0.525" dia.

Standing Liberty quarter for size reference . . . anyd it's purty.

That ball is in quite good condition for having penetrated a deer so far.

Any balls I've recovered have only show the weave of the patch material, never rifling.

Every one I ever recovered had rifling marks, but I shoot a tight load that you have to wack pretty good to get started. I shoot 495's with .015 pre-lubed patches most often.

Mine are loaded so tight that they will show some rifling if pulled with a CO2 silent ball discharge or a ball pulling screw.
