I picked up a 16 oz. jug of Rusty Duck Black Off BP Cleaning Solvent at an out of town Walmart. It contains Ethylene Glycol & Monobutyl Ether and the label says the vapors are harmful, to use it in a well vented room & that it eliminates soaking. It's clearish red in color and I wanted something effective on Pyrodex. I'm hoping that it will evaporate quickly, not contribute to any ignition problems (just headaches! ::) and that it won't take the finish off a stock. Has anyone heard anything about it or tried it out before? (Cost-$4.97) :hmm:

I use it all the time. Great stuff. No problems with the finish on my stocks either.
I usually squirt some down the barrel and hit it with a bore brush to break everything up. Then I flush the barrel with clean water.

I have it and used it also. I find it to be like most cleaners. If you use a brush and do some scrubbing it works very well. But, so does regular water. Is the secret in the "Rusty Duck" or in the scrubbing? I would think it is the scubbing. JMHO

I was not impressed and will not buy any more. In fact, I find it very hard to actually get a barrel clean with the stuff. Was told that for other powders, it can be the best there is. I have not had good luck with it and real black fouling.
