Morning gents, I'm in the process of completing my garb as an Eastern woodland native american. Being that my family ancestry has a lineage from the Shawnee, it's only fitting my portrayal be as such. What I'm working on is a simple scalp lock. Unfortunately growing an actual lock is not in question as this would be the simplest solution, however not an option so I'm wanting to see if any members have successfully created their own prostetic scalp lock? I've seen other individuals from different communities online construct them, yet pictures are lacking of the process. I have actual human hair that measures 8" that will be used. I have a general direction for how to go about doing this project, but I wanted to see if anyone had pictures of a complete lock, mainly the portion that will be affixed to the scalp. Wanting to take great care in the construction as the scalp lock is a very symbolic piece to any warrior, therefore details are very important! I'll also be tying my hair roach to the prostetic along with adorning the piece with a few turkey feathers once complete. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Well spirit gum is what's used to fix the piece to your head. What I'm having issues with is trying to make the hair that's attached to the leather disk look natural, as if it's actually growing from your head.

I saw ani immitation scalp at a reenactment once and it looked very real. He used human hair, but I don't know what the skin part was made of. It sure looked real. Of course he was carrying this, not wearing it.

I'd suggest posing that question to some theatrical make-up artist. Bet they could tell you.

I actually constructed the piece tonight and to my amazement it turned out extremely well. I used the human hair I purchased from a beauty products center, and what a trip it was... Anyways, rather pleased with the results, I'll post a few pictures once the entire piece is complete.
