has anyone used this brand? thanks
I went to a BP supplier yesterday and could only get Hodgdon Pyrodex at 17.95 for 16oz.. for me it's too much money and the drive is to far so i guess i'l bite the bullit and order on line.

I have a couple of pounds of that brand in 2FG. I use it for the main charge in a custom southern mountain rifle with a large Siler lock and also in my Lyman GPR .50. I love it. I think that it is a very clean burning powder, for being black powder that is and it does not seem to "sludge" as quickly as some less expensive brands. If you want to spend the money, you will certainly get what you pay for, in my opinion.

Greybrd,
I got a case of Schuetzen powder last year with 2FG, 3FG, and 4FG, and I think it works great. This powder cost me less than a case of Goex brand powder and works just as well in my opinion.
Check with Upper Missouri Trading Co. When I ordered, the powder and shipping costs where still less per pound than I could buy near home or at events. I shoot flint locks and hate Pyrodex. Schuetzen is what I'm going to stay with.
Good luck sir,
TVG

I swapped a couple of years back from Goex. I think it burned cleaner than my Goex and my loads stayed pretty close to the same. Plastic cans rather than metal.

I'm a recent convert to Schuetzen powder, use 3Fg in my .50 TMR for both main charge and priming. It's a cleaner burning powder (IMO) than Goex, and gives great results with a 50 gr. charge for plinking, and 80 gr. for deer and hogs.

Enjoy today,

Joel

A couple weeks ago I received a case of Scheutzen Ffg and Fffg from Upper Missouri, in Crofton, Nebraska. I've only fired about 20 rounds of Fffg, offhand, from one 45 cal., flintlock rifle. From that limited "test", if such that can be called, I like a lot. It seemed just as accurate, I thought the fouling was about equal to GOEX, and I think it was a little faster in ignition. The load also sounded like it was a little hotter even tho the powder charge was the same. Some of that may have been due to the dryness of the atmosphere that particular day. I will eventurally chrono some loads to verify.

Schuetzen BP is from Germany, made by WANO, Powdermill Kunigunde. I use the PPP, similar to FFFg in all my ML (GPR cal.45, Investarm Hawken .54, Kentucky pistol .45, Colt Army .44). Works great and is easy to clean.

LH Joel, is your TMR a Dixie Gun Works? If so, I'll probably have some questions for you since I recently acquired one.

I've been using schuetzen for about 3 years now and at this point wouldn't use anything else for the money. I think it fouls less than goex and it cleans up with out much mess. Use it and enjoy

Schuetzen is a good powder, but, Graf's brand is identical, even made in the same plant, and considerably lower priced.

:hmm: Elephant brand will work, the only factor will be fouling, which IMHO is excessive at best---I used to use Elephant until someone gave me a can of Swiss and like those who use Schutzen, wouldn't change back. However Graf powder is less expensive and is a very good powder---some say it's Schutzen in another wrapper???? :hatsoff:

Graf and Schützen is the same. Today I bought 500gramms of WANO PP (similar to Schuetzen). Until now I used PPP, but will have a try with PP in my .54 Investarm Hawken. Any èxpiriences?

I've been getting powder from Schuetzen for three years, from their North American headquarters in Alrington, TX. They used to distribute Elephant too. A year or so ago they dropped Elephant for Swiss.

I shoot 3F in my 50cal GPR and cannot complain. I recently ran out (I generally order a case each year, but I give some away as prizes at our rendezvous/club shoots) and had to shoot GOEX at the February club shoot. Didn't notice much shooting difference in all honesty, but the barrel did seem a little dirtier after 15 loads.

The S/A Pernambuco Powder Factory that made Elephant brand black powder ceased operations in 2001.
The machinery was sold off and somebody used it to set up another plant about 50 miles from the old plant. A container of Elephant from the new plant arrived in the U.S. early in 2006 but nothing more was heard on it.

The first of what is now Schuetzen powder came into the U.S. in 2002.
Produced by WANO, in Germany, using a commercial alder wood charcoal. Formulated and processed to produce a rifle type/burn rate powder.

I have been using Schuetzen for 3 years. It seems to be cleaner shootin than the Goex. The Shuetzen was $9.00 last year and the Goex was $10.00. I pick my powder up direct no shipping or HSMAT.

I've been using Schutzen for a couple of years and picked up another 5 lbs this weekend at the Winter Nationals. Shooting pistol, that should last me until next year's match.

I find it shoots as well as Goex. I do find that Swiss shoots a little better but at $18 a lb I'll give up a little on the group size.

The powder was $12 a lb this year. Goex was $12.50 and Swiss was $18.50.
