has anyone used this stuff and how does it rate as to goex, swiss etc....the guy i buy my goex from had none but he had this....i'll be at the range tommorrow to find out how it shoots compaired to what i had....since i restocked my hawken and need tp find out how my sites are anyway....................bob

Schuetzen was specifically made to DUPLICATE Goex.
It does.
If you can find my post on "Powder comparisons" you'll see the data, Schuetzen vs. Goex, vs. Swiss, vs. Elephant vs. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz :snore: :snore: :snore:

Roundball, I don't know if Schuetzen was made by the same co. as Elephant, but I really like the Schuetzen powder. I find fouling less than Goex which Goex is light years ahead of Elephant.Good powder, been using a lot of it.

I had gotten some Schuetzen being sold under the Graf&Sons name this summer. In fact a few of us at our range have some. Schuetzen seems hotter than GOEX at firing. For me it seems a little harder to ignite than GOEX but burns fine. GOEX gives me a millisecond or two faster ignition in my Siler Rock lock than Schuetzen does. As far as speed of ball goes. I have Chronoed [.535 ball/patch GOEX (3f)-95grn=1662fps,60grn-1401fps] {.535 ball/patch Schuetzen 3f-95grn=1658fps,60grn=1392fps. My 50yd groups do hang at 2-3 inches with Schuetzen,Goex gets me into 1.5-2 inch range. All the readings are using my 44" barreled Lancaster benched with Chrono at 15ft from muzzle. the group size is within these ranges off hand also if I do my part right. The Schuetzen powder is somewhat smaller grained than GOEX giving more blowing through my touch hole when seating the Ball/patch. :winking: :imo:

Schuetzen is WANO brand of Germany.
The difference beteen lots of Shu. and Goex are no more than you find between lots of Goex and Goex....Elephant and Elephant. Swiss and Swiss..... or....zzzzz :snore: :snore:

Awe go shoot the stuff. It works.

thanks all....it was 20.00 lb at the local shop and goex is 15.00 at the mfg but 20 miles away.......................bob

"Schuetzen is WANO brand of Germany."

That's the name I was trying to remember.

As some of you old timers will remember WANO was sometimes called GUANO because it was some of the poorest powder around.
I was told that someone who worked at, or with the folks at Swiss Powder learned some of their methods etc and told WANO about them pointing out at the same time that they really needed to create some good powder.
Schuetzen Powder is the result of this.

If I had the choice of Schuetzen or Goex at the same price, I would go with Goex if only to give support to the only USA produced commercial Black Powder company. :)

I'm on Maxi's side with this one,,and it's no wonder he want's too snooze. The idea of beating up one powder vrs. another is WAY over done,,and too many years old,,,,,,,,I've even seen forums split because of Lot#'s??

If Goex would make a "quality" product I'd use it. But I only use 8#'s a year..and for that I want the best!

Zonie,,Wano?? wano who? Elephant anyone?? those are done, gone,de-funked. I still see guy's using "Clean Shot",,?? can we move on, and try to bring the rest with,, (please?)
When it comes to the best powders out there I'd say th,a,t(yawn)(umm) I'd say,zzZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz,,,,,,, :snore: :snore:

The reason the groups opened up on the Scheutzen vs. the Goex is because the poweder is simply different. Group comparisons means absolutely nothing when comparing powders unless you work each powder to find the very best load for each individual barrel on each powder, then compare them.

Same way with changing lubes, balls, patches, etc. You change any part of the equasion & the end results will vary.

As for the Scheutzen powder, what I have shot so far of it (not much yet) I do like it. Upon initial shooting of it, it appears to be about the same velocity as the Goex & burns just a tad cleaner but not noticably so. With ignition in a flintlock I found it fast as the Goex & lightyears ahead of the Elephant in all aspects except accurace & have not done a comparison there. It is not as hot or as clean burning as the Swiss. I am down to my last can of Goex & then will rework loads for the Scheutzen & be shooting it for a while. The Scheutzen I have is from the first shipment that came into the USA. Don't know anything about the second shipment that came in.

:master: Thank you. :master: :master:

My e-buddy in South Africa uses ONLY Wano brand.
Every black powder shooter in S.A. uses Wano (both of them) exclusively.
Wano is the ONLY black powder exported to S.A. which accounts for it's amazing popularity. :what:
The Wano that get shipped to S.A. is 'fireworks' grade, whatever that means.
So in S.A. you use Wano weather you wanno or not.

( I really, really crack me up!)

well i was at the range monday and shooting this powder right off the bat without adjusting my sites from restocking my hawken and having it totaly disassembled it shot 1 1/2" groups at 50 yds and 3" at 100yds was very unexspected....so i guess this powder will do for now.... before i hit the range i poured out some of this and what i had left next ot each other on a piece of white paper and i saw no difference in grain size so i mixed up the two together for one batch and it shot good........................bob
