Seasoning your barrel?

"Seasoning a barrel" is a myth that refuses to die; this includes iron barrels. Don't believe it? Then burn some black powder in a skillet over a few weeks, don't wash it and see iffin it is "seasoned". Also, even if you could "season" a bore all you would be doing is reducing the bore diameter and filling in the rifling grooves. Keep that bore clean down to the bright metal.

That pretty well sums it up nicely. To any who were annoyed, my apologies for going off-topic, but I just couldn't see the point in commenting on such an absurd idea as "seasoning a bore". On the other hand, as cleaning and brushes had already been mentioned, I felt my experiences with a bore brush were worthy of inclusion (could be of value to someone).
Maybe.

can't see how it'd get stuck if you get one the proper size

If in doubt and you have a burning desire to try a brush, there ain't no law stopping you.
But, when it gets stuck, don't come back here griping. Just search for the many threads trying to help others who have stuck brushes in their bores.

in a time long ago, and in a land far away, there was a spray- on stuff said to coat the barrel with molybdenum (this was for CF stuff) ... I tried it and found no discernible difference. except I had less money to spend on cartridges and other shooting gadgets.

that was my only attempt at putting stuff in or on the bore, except the routine cleaning.

bottom line: do what you like, but I doubt it'll make a boatload of difference.

Not quite true, you could end up with so much baked-on crud in the grooves that it becomes a smoothbore! :haha:
