Probably tight because not getting clean burn with .010.Try .015 green stripe or .020 blue stripe pillow.If you are shooting a 50cal. give FFg a try and about 80 grs.Might want to look into getting a "T" handle for your rod.Makes cleaning easier than slippy hands on a rod.

Check Sportsmans Warehouse on the East Side of Wichita. They have a decent selection of Muzzleloader stuff.

BTW is this TC a Flint Lock or precussion?
 
All sportsmens and gander had were 45 and 50 some 54 but not much, and the T/C is a flintlock.
 
sounds like the patch is too thin. .490 should use .015 at least. do you need to force the short starter at all? the advise to dry off all parts is righton. as is checking top jaw screw for tightness.
