I had seen this question asked before and I thought "Hey, I bet that would be a neat experience, just to say I did it.” Well in the past two days, while I have been off with Christmas break from college, I have done two nine inch pistol barrels from 15/16 GM scrap I had laying around.

Now, I can say that I have done it, and put some scrap barrel material to good use, but I don’t have much desire to do it again. I did the work with a grinder and files. From my experience I could not imagine doing this on a regular basis and I don’t want to think about undertaking a full length rifle barrel.

If you want to make it a onetime experience, I say go for it, but it is a lot of work.
