"was sold off to a company in Colorado Springs."
As a member of the Colorado Springs Muzzleloaders group in the late '70s and early '80s, I recall our group being invited to tour the new barrel making operation in west CSprings and eyeing the entire barrel and stock making process that had been bought fromthe defunct Sharon Rifle Barrel Co. We had the opportunity to choose from a few unfinished Sharron barrels that had come with the equipment from Kalispell. Got a .54 36 in barrel that was then breached and plugged, as I watched, for $25! This became the basis for my first scratch built full stock Hawken.

Here's one I just acquired. Haven't shot it yet.

That's very reminiscent of my GRRW Hawken, but mine has a 36" 58 cal barrel tapered from 1 1/8" at the breech to 1" at the muzzle. Weight is right at 12 1/2 pounds.

Just wanted to update everyone on the Sharon Trade Rifle I was going to purchase if everything checked out on it. Last Wednesday my wife and I drove two hours north to Streator IL. to check out the Sheron Muzzleloader. Checked the barrel and it was mirror bright and the over all function was excellent. No rust or scratches. The stock has a few small dings but nothing that I cant fix. The Brown finish was very good with only a little wear on the tip of the buttplate from loading. I am in the process of re-browning it. I shouldered the muzzleloader and found it to be a perfect fit for my physical frame. Over all condition of the rifle is very good. I ended up picking it up at a very reasonable price. The Gunstore owner also threw in a couple of BP pistols that he had sitting around in his store for a number of years. One was a Pepperbox 31 Cal. with four barrels. It has no maker marks or serial numbers on it. The other was a single shot in what I think is maybe also a 31 Cal. I measured the bore with my calipers. It is a home made pistol and does not have any makers marks or caliber nor serial number. Both pistols were in fair to good condition. The owner also had a small little area towards the back of the store that he had a few BP supplies. He told me to go ahead and grab what I want. So I picked up two No.11 Remington percussion caps. A Brass powder measurer and Brass capper, and a Ball starter. So I made out pretty good! Got my Sharon, and two pistols and some supplies added in for free. I will send pics very soon. I will also need some help in identifying these two pistols? I thought you all would like to know how I made out with the Sharon. Respectfully, cowboys1062.

I have a .54 cal, 34" x1", 1 in 72, that I picked up in 1987 from a store that sadly no longer exists. They were selling parts that I expect were leftovers from Sharon kits. I bought the barrel, lock, triggers and other furniture and built the stock myself. I built it as a half stock hawken and I absolutely Love it. It is very acurate and I have been hunting with it since 1987. I highly recomend them.
I have not shot Douglas or other premium barrels so I cant compare, but I cant imagine a premium barrel shooting any better than my Sharon. I would buy it if I had the chance.
