im trying to think up some new ideas for pouch shapes and sizes.i got T C Alberts book yesterday, awsome book, it has patterns in it but they all range 6- 8 inches tall and 6-7 wide . what sizes and shapes are yall guys?
thanks jason

the one i just made is 8" tall x 7" wide and 2" at the bottom and goes up the side to 1" :v .............bob

Here's mine. I opted for big. Between a haver sack on one side, this on the other (up high uner my arm) a trump line in the back and water, I'm good for 2-3 days. I sewed small pieces of leather inside so my powder measure, ball starter and patch knife hang like mini scabbards. It works great for speed shoots and hunting.
I've since added a large pewter button to keep in closed.

I'm in the smaller-is-better category. The country I hunt is really brushy, and the more stuff I have flapping around on my bod, the more I get tangled. Best of all for me is to stuff everything in coat pockets for streamlining, though it's hard to beat a bag for convenience when hunting open country or shooting at the range.

6" wide by 7" tall, no gusset. If I were to squash it flat I might gain another 1/2" in either direction. Whithin it I carry-
turnscrew
bag of flints and extra flint leather
bag of cleaning patches
rawhide bag with about 30 balls
bag of shooting patches
shortstarter
room to spare

worm and ballscrew are in the patchbox. When I figure out a proper load for my rifle I'll make a primitive charger and hang it form the strap of my shooting pouch.

The first one I made (2 years ago) was about 12 inches X 12 inches with a 1.5 inch gusset. I was always losing stuff inside as it was bigger than I expected. Also became very heavy since "there's room in the shooting bag for that". Made another recently about 8 inches wide X 6 inches deep with a 1 inch gusset. I like the smaller one better, especially for trekking. It comfortably holds everything I need to shoot without the "extra junk". The larger one may be converted to haversack duty in the future.

thanks guys nice looking stuff too. so far a good range of sizes that includes the ones i make and the ones in my new book. by the way anyone who is at all interested in making pouches oughta get this book. ive corresponed a few times via email with TC Albert and he is a heckuva guy and very helpful and willing to share even more of his knowledge than in the book. i think i may make some of the smaller ones for day bags or squirrel rifle bags. i have figured a way to enlarge the smaller patterns i have. thanks again guys

If you are serious about making correct hunting pouches, I would suggest that you acquire Madison Grant's "The Kentucky Rifle Hunting Pouch".

The "Hunting Pouch" book contains over 200 pages of photos and descriptions of original pouches, accountrements, knives, and a few rifles.
