Years ago my front sight popped of my trade musket when the gun fell. I never found the sight and replaced it with a shotgun bead. Once I determined the POI at 25 and 50 yards I was good to go. As it turned out it was dead on at 25 yards an inch or so low at 50. I don't know how traditional a shot gun bead is on a trade musket, but it worked for me. If it doesn't work,it's easy to remove.
 
I have a matchlock that came with a bead sight very similar to a shotgun bead
