Hi,
Under the gun building forum I posted pictures of a New England fowling gun I recently built. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showpost.php?post/1539809/
Someone asked how well it shoots and is it a cheek slapper. Here are some results from 50 and 85 yards:
The grid on the target is composed of 1" squares for scale. The scattered shots are from shooting the gun from a rest with 0.015" lubed patches, 0.575 ball, and 60 gr of 2f powder. The stock design is a little awkward when shooting it from a seated bench rest. It is really designed to be shot offhand. The group of 3 shots at 6 o'clock was shooting offhand at 50 yards with same ball and powder charge but 0.020" lubed patch. My point of aim was the bottom of the paper. I raised the aim to the bottom of the orange and fired 4 shots into the black and 1 in the 7 ring. Then I moved back to 85 yards, offhand shooting and put 2 in the black and 1 shot in the 8 ring. This gun shoots really well and is not a cheek slapper but it is very light so there is not much mass to absorb recoil.
