Those of you who shoot several rifles at a shooting range which has a loading bench might want to consider making a storage block like this one.

It is made out of a short board, some thin leather pads and one picture frame clamp.
I cut the picture frame clamp into two pieces and screwed them to the board and they work great for clamping the block to the bench.

The block not only holds the rifles I'm not shooting, but holds the rifle I'm loading.

The thing in the background was intended to be a rifle rest but I wasn't happy with it so I converted it into a flash shield.
The flash shield protects the neighboring shooter from the flash from my flintlocks.

Hi Zonie couldnt' help but notice the truck in the photo. What year and make is it? Just curious it reminds me of my old 72 Dodge pick up I had and never should have sold.

Anyway nice looking set up for the multiple rifles. I have one similar but not near as nice as that one.

1978 GMC 4X longbed.
Bought it in '82. Only has 97 K mi on it because it only gets 10 MPG going uphill, downhill, fast, or slow.
Well, that's not exactly right, it gets 6 MPG in low range. :rotf:

Getting back to the storage, I always take at least 2 and usually 3 rifles with me when I go to the range.
The clamps work on most benches but they have one bench made out of 4X4's that are too big for them

dodge blue is a little darker!
chev/gmc usedbolts on the tail gate latch assy while ford used screw heads. dodge tailgates dont have the deep contours either.
Heck, they were all good rigs from that vintage as compared to the tinfoil trucks of today!

Aint it the truth. That ol' Dodge was such a good truck and that 318 motor purred like a kitten and never let me down. The kids learned to drive in it and it got me down the road for 2 years while I was going through the divorce back then. Sure miss that truck!

Yep had a 79 and a 77 chevy both were 4x4's, great trucks too.

You know the new trucks are not what they use to be, not by a long shot. I had always driven old chevrolets and preferred the 4x4's too but dang, the mileage was like you say, pretty bad. Back then if you had a 4x4 that got 12 miles a gallon you were doing pretty good.

I am driving a small house around today. I say house cause it costs more than my house. It is a 05 chevy dually 4x4 with the duramax deisel. Oh yeah it is nice but talk about expensive to have stuff fixed. But what I wanted to say was this thing gets as much as 20-21 miles per gallon on the highway and normally about 18 around town.

So even though they are not near the trucks they use to be and very expensive they do have that plus about them. Of course the price you pay for gas now days probably negates that bennefit. (strange isn't how all that works, might be better at 12 miles a gallon with 70 cent gas though!)
