shooting sabot 50cal bullets without sabot from .44

my question is, has anyone shot the 50 cal ammo that is 50cal with the sabot but the projectile is actually .454 without sabot, from a .44 revolver? if so how good was it? i ask because unfortunately black powder is my only option for self defense so i am looking for the best/most reliable loads i can manage with my 1851 navy snub nose in .44 which is my EDC. i did get the lee conical .454 cast so i can cast my own but for self defense i really want to find the best factory made conical i can until i become much better at casting because im betting my life on it in a worst case scenario.
