if frizzen spring is too strong the frizzen wont turn over.. if the frizzen spring is too weak compared to the hammer spring it wont spark becouse the flint wont engage the steel properly.. if if the main hammer spring is too strong and the frizzen spring is also strong it will crush the flint.. so all has to be just so, and each lock must be timed individually for that lock by an expert gunsmith to get good flint life with good spark... keep oil off the frizzen and flint. buy properly shaped flints..a little bit steeper angle for practice and sharper angle for hunting.. up or down depends on your gun.. you can use wider or narrower flints to make gun work better.. some locks dont fit the flint you need to use well... especially up you need a wider flint, they are usually too long and need to be trimmed shorter from the back with pliers.. if fiddleing with it for a month or two dont help, then send it to an expert locksmith and they will fix it up.. dave.
