Subtract the shot size from 17. That will give you the shot diameter in hundreths of an inch. ie for #6 shot 17-6 = 11. Shot size is .11" in diameter. #9 shot 17-9= 8. Shot size is .08"

Yes, the " RULE OF 17" is used to give you the diameter of bird shot pellets, in hundredths of an inch. Subtract the number of the shot from 17, and you get it diameter: Ex. #5 shot. 17-5 = .12" #7 1/2 shot. 17-7.5 = .085".

The iron BBs used in AIR RIFLES are .177" While the Steel BB, and Lead BB, are .18". That may not seem like much but since most barrels on Air Rifles are made of brass tubing, using the oversized Steel BB will ruin the barrel, jamming the pellet into the barrel until the diameter is distorted, and, sometimes ruptured. If you think firearms produce a lot of pressure, you should see the pressure readings for air rifles!

Buck shot runs from .24" for #4 buck, to .36" for 000 Buck.

Hope it comes out okay.

Andre: I know you typed these numbers spaced apart better, and this is just how they print out when you send them. They are hard to read, but they are accurate. Thanks for all that effort.

We don't see B-shot for sale her, or much BBB shot, either. The same for TT, and TTT shot. For some reason, #2 Buckshot is rarely seen, also. We do see #12 birdshot here, mostly loaded in rimfire cartridges like the .22 LR, or the .22 Magnum. Both are very short range pest loads for mice, and sparrows. I have not seen #12 shot being sold by the bag here, for reloaders. Its probably available But I have also never seen it listed for sale by dealers, or distributors.
