Kev, Yes, keep an eye out. Those doubles can be expensive but I've found they are one of the best deals out there. I found a 28 ga single on a ML forum a couple of years ago for $75, it was one of the cheap spain made guns Dixie used to sell. I bought a 16ga original double off of the internet for $350 from a forum member who was buying another gun and the wife said something had to go. I bought a 10ga double Navy in a clearance flyer from Navy Arms for around $200. The last gun show I went to last year I passed on two original 12ga doubles @ $150 per (dumb - dumb - dumb), they looked shootable. I'm still stinging from that stupid move! I bought a 12ga double kit from Sarco when they were clearing them out for $140 per, another dumb move as I should of bought 10 of them! Keep your eyes open, I keep falling into them. The trick is to not look for them and have the money ready as they pass fast. Each one I bought would have been missed if I had waited at all like the gun show doubles I passed. Sarco sold out of their double kits in less than a day.

A few years back a friend offered me a double that nobody wanted, hes family had sold off some estate guns. I got the last offering of the guns so I had missed out on about a dozen other guns. All that was left was a old single shot bolt .22, an 1863 stamped springfield in poor shape, an old breakaction 12ga Manton double in excellent shape, and an old H&R .32 breackaction pistol in fair cond. and another gun that I can't even recall at the moment. He said I could have the leftovers for $150 total - I injured my thumb yanking my wallet out! That Manton is a hoot to shoot with some handloaded BP shells!!

Like 10 guage, I see the Navy Arms occasionally at shows in the mid $300 range. They look to be a good deal. I remember that CVA made a pretty nice double rifle. Maybe they made a shotgun of the same pattern? If so, It shouldn't be terribly pricey either.

Last El Paso show, someone had an original 1800's SxS 12 guage for $450. It was in really good condition and I almost bought it. Glad I didn't though, cuz a Suhl target rifle came along right afterwards and I had the money for it.

Hey Kev,
You can't beat rhe price on the shotgun in the classified adds, posted a few days ago. $350 is a steal!
It's not mine, and I have nothing to do with it.
But, from the picture, it looks in good shape, and the price is right.

TOW has good deals from time to time. They had a Zouave last week for $199 that I should have bought on the spot, it was gone in a couple hours though. I saw a CVA 12 ga at Cabelas last year for $149. It was in rough shape externally but could have been made decent with a bit of effort.

I forgot to mention if you are handy you could also put one together pretty cheap. Lots of guys have built nice shotguns around modern cartridge barrels. Some years back there was an article in Muzzleblasts about a guy who built his son a 16 ga. from one of the barrel blanks Dixie sold at that time. Not the easiest route, but it has and can be done if one has more time than money.

Those kinds of deals always seem to find me right after the truck payment goes out or the insurance bill comes in the mail. :cursing:
