why does the pistol have such a UBER long cleaning rod, and do you shoot it with it in the gun? just courious? they are all beauties & belong on a calendar !

well Toot , i have bad arthritis in my hands and like something to grip to pull it out of the channel and also when ramming.
actually I made it from a cut-off from a rifle build and have not decided just how i want to treat it.
i only shoot it at targets and don't carry it in a sash or such so i don't return the rod after loading .

For me it's mostly flintlocks with just a couple of exceptions, okay then, maybe three. There are three caplocks I'll never let go. As granth mentioned the H&A, I have the very old Heritage model, can't be beat for accuracy. Mine has progressive rifling, FWIW.

The .45 H&A, now retired.

Had this one for several years and so far it's a dedicated target rifle.

The US M1841 in .54.

And that's everything I have.

I started to take pictures of the rest of my stable of muzzle loaders to show them off here. Made the UGE mistake of gathering them all in one spot. Ole Eagle eye's money pincher started sputtering like a Elco outboard!
I will be posting more pictures, one rifle at a time. IN THE classifieds!
truthfully i didn't realize what i had. and more parts on the way so there will be some percussions and "maybe" i will part with a flinter or two. sob, snivel, gasp.

AW, it ain't so awful! for the last 54 years she has never denied me a gun i wanted. none of this "need" business.
when we became empty nesters i filled all the spare bedrooms, the attic space (finished into one room 12x30), and various out buildings with the things i collected. can't mention some of them here but at one time i had over 100 rifles made by a shirt maker from Hartford.
when i started to slide hard cases under the connubial bed a rule was scratched into my forehead.
"one gun in, one gun out". i just didn't ever think it applied to my muzzleloaders.
attempted to filibuster her with " according to the BATFE " these aren't firearms!
remember Medusa? the look i got was enough to turn one to stone.
besides if i sell one, i get to handle a brand new virgin! one out, one in! us old guy's get our thrills where we can!
