Hey frankie, for a first Hawkin build, that is a very handsome piece, indeed! Beautiful hunk of Walnut and great unique case color hardening on the lock plate! Did you do that metal finishing work yourself too? I'm impressed either way!
Thank you Not the case color but I restocked a Lyman Great plains for practice before I do a Hawken from maybe the Hawken shop.

Both By Dr Corey Stewart, of North Carolina.
Long Gun= Sweet Baby Jane. 24", .69 caliber smoothbore Trade/Canoe gun
Pistol=Lady Eilene. .58 caliber Smoothbore
I have many more production guns, but these two are my go to guns.

I only have a ‘63 contract rifle (Harpers Ferry 2 band style repo’ with a lock labeled Lyman) and it’s pretty accurate with Pritchett’ style projectiles. With Burton style projectiles shoots high but at 300 yards seems pretty dead on.
I have purchased a 1855 style rear sight ( ladder ) and just received the wrench from Gunbroker and plan on installing it.
The Pritchett’s are about .560 , plugged (clay) and paper patched with beeswax.
The Burton’s are about .575, not plugged or patched , just some Beeswax on the rings and skirt.

This is a better picture of my Leman Trade Gun I posted a while back. Put together from a CVA .45cal 33" barrel converted to flint, a nice Leman Stock and L&R Replacement Flintlock. The stain is Laurel Mountain Maple. I have the drum and matching Percussion Lock if I ever want to change it back.

That looks like a well designed rifle. What is the twist?
