I stripped off the old finish and then put on a thin coat of flat black followed by a thin coat of acetone to get the color I wanted it seems to have worked

Thanks. It's from a blank. It's inspired by the Philip Creamer rifle built for William Clark. It won't be a bench copy but have many of the same features. Still need to do patchbox and cheek inlay, then stain.

My first long rifle build done about 30 years ago. Made from parts from Dixie and Log Cabin. I figured out a way to hang it above the gas fireplace that we use very little, so it does not get a lot of heat there. Green Mountain Barrel 45cal, Siler Lock and precarved curly maple stock with honey maple stain from Laurel Mountain Forge.

Ive got a couple Gems in my own opinion. But I think this one is my favorite. John Bergmann build Hawken Full Stock 32" Colerain barrel 54 caliber. Very good shooting rifle.
