In Tulsa I traded for a NC/Tenn-style longrifle. Maple stock with light figure & linseed oil finish. Barrel marked SHARON RIFLE BARREL (I met Hall Sharon once at a rendezvous in California). Lock marked inside Dale Storey 6-16-80 with patent number. Yes, he patented a side-hammer percussion lock design! Interesting gun with brass tacks and leather butt "plate" also tacked in place. Looks essentially unfired.

I'd LOVE to hear from any/all who know about this guy and his gun(s).

Just know from what I read in all of the Older BP books that Sam Fadala wrote/was a part of. He was a big Storey fan I believe,
Supposed to be really solid locks? never had the opportunity to handle one or shoot a gun that carried one.. Wish I did though ;)

The book, "Black Powder Hobby Gunsmithing" was written by him and Sam Fadala.

A very good book and worth having..

One of the advantages that I have is that I got into Muzzle Loading back in the 1970s. With no internet, I did most of my learning from the many books published at that time.

The book, "Black Powder Hobby Gunsmithing" was coauthored by Dale Storey and Sam Fadala.

One of the sections of the book is on "Assembling the Pennsylvania Style Mule Ear Lock". The mule ear lock is also shown in several other chapters.

I don't recommend the $206 offering on Amazon.

You can find it at Half Price books for $30 and as before it is a worth while book, lot so of knowledge there.

"Yes, he patented a side-hammer percussion lock design". Another who patented his lock is Wade Ingrham of Ingrham Underhammers. Not a lot of folks have patented their locks.

Yes, but only if it is stocked at your local Half Priced Books. There was a copy listed on Amazon for $29.XX. It really amazes me what the price is for some of these older and by now rare, but full of great information, books.

I Goggled the book title tonight and found it on the Internet Archive available for download.

IA offers most books in 5-10 different formats. The best FREE way I have found to read them is a program called Calibre. It is virus free software I have been using for 4-5 years. It also translates just about any book format to any other format to make it compatible with a mobile device. You can download Calibre here:
