The pellets will work with the conversion to a shotgun primer. BH209 should even work. I'll know for sure this weekend. I normally use 777 powder in mine with a #11 cap and it works.

I say try everything. That's the fun part of these things anyway.

I want put pellets of powder in my BP rifles. They are contrived to make a frugal sport into an expensive sport.

seems to me that walmart closed them out around fifty bucks many moons ago. Good deal on the rifle.

Wood stocks are around. You may have to look and wait but they are there.

Triple F is a good place to start. I get less fouling with it in my 54.

Pellets are for air rifles not BP guns :youcrazy:

Re: converting to shotgun primers. If you plan on hunting check the regulations. Some states don't allow them.

:rotf: Trust me, everybody has convinced me.Meanwhile, I'm going to do the weights and foam thing in the butt stock, and keep my eyes open for a wood stock. The one local guy who stocks black powder supplies says he's about to put stuff out for the local season, so looks like I'm set.
Thanks to everyone. This is a really helpful and friendly place.

One other thing. Hang around at a range long enough, and you will see 1 (or 2) of those pellets flying down range as tracers. Not something you want under dry conditions, not even on the range, much less woods.

In the blackpowder section of evilbay you see
a lot of stocks, you may find something.

P.A.

They make pellet tracers? That's pretty neat, but I don't really see the application with a single shot. :rotf:

Oh boy, I was just at Walmart and I priced those pellets. Almost $13 before tax, over $13 if you pay sales tax. 50 grain pellets, 24 per pack, that's $1.08 per shot if you use two pellets. Three pellets, $1.62 per shot. Imagine the cost of one shot if you also bought those copper hollow point sabot go-gitters, maybe $2.50. No wonder those guys only shoot two or three times at the range, they're flinging money at the target. :shocked2:

And I complain because caps went up to a nickle per shot. :surrender: Bill
