tg I have a benjamin Mills rifle made in 1855 that has a rear peep sight it was featured in the Nov. 1988 vol of Muzzle Blasts --spud----- :hmm: will send you e-mail pics
 
I would like to see it, by that time much had happended with sights and projectiles when compared to what was around in the 1830s'and earlier.
 
I used to do this shooting coons at night when the hides were worth something.
Take some liquid paper and paint the whole back of your back sight white.It picked up the light better ,but in your case it might show enough color change to help. Mostly putting a black dot in the white notch
