Got out and shot some of the 380 grain REAL bullets out of the TC renegade, they were a touching group so I was happy. I plan to order up a mould from midway with the caliper, I was wondering if there is any real differance in casting quality between single and double cavity moulds for the lee moulds. I figured When casting the lyman dipper will hold enough lead to fill both cavities and because the way lee moulds are made the two cavities should be identical. Any strong opinions out there based on experience. I am leaning toward a double cavity, but some may have found single cavity real moulds cast better bullets.

The .54 cal. Lee REAL double cavity mold is listed as 380 grains. The single cavity mold is listed as 390 grains. I use the double cavity mold and they shoot great in my .54 T/C Hawken  .

Lee moulds make up the majority of my casting tools. All bullets, whether round or conical are dimensioned as speced. Dual cavity moulds throw bullets that are identical. You will make more bullets and save time with them. The price is right, and I have yet to wear one out. I do like to run ball in camp now and then, but use other tools. Camp can be hard to get to now and then, and the Lees might get damaged in a pack, whether the pack is on my back or on the horse. But then other moulds from Lyman, RCBS, ... could get damaged as well.I recommend the Lee.

I found ones that throw 2 reals or 2 rb in 54 cal but no combo moulds except in 45 and 50 cal, this would be ideal but will order a rb when my supply dwindles Thanks for the info plan to order the 2 cavity REAL with a caliper to combine shipping. Thanks ALL Buttonbuck.

I could be wrong, but I have heard that all the NEW molds by Lee are double cavity, at least in pistol sizes. Emery

I've used both single and double moulds from Lee. They cast very well. I like the RB moulds. I haven't had much success with the REALS or the Minnies I'm afraid. From what I've seen your gun either likes them or it doesn't. Unfortunately my guns don't. They do like the RB's though.

I ordered the caliper and 2 cavity real mould from midway despite their shipping policy. It was still a good and fair deal. I ordered 50 real bullets for 5 dollars off ebay store cheapshots.com homecast by someone....came in a ziplock bag but in good order a couple of the lot should have gone back to the melting pot, I had great success with the bullets at my hunting range of 30-50 yards from the 54 renegade. a group that the holes touched, better than I get with most conicals. This was a good test to try before comitting to a mould.
