Not sure what you mean by resetting the trigger. On my single set trigger you have to pull/push the trigger forward to set it or else it won't function. Have you tried adjusting the pressure screw?
 
'Adding another 'maybe' here that you might check into. If your sear spring itself is too stiff the set trigger spring might not be able to overcome it to trip the lock. I had that situation with a Hollenbough single set and Kibler late Ketland and lightening the sear spring fixed the problem. One pull on the trigger and nothing, second pull and it would fire, like yours is doing.
