I have noticed how hard it is to find young people with enough of an attention span to be able to maintain focus on any activity that is not fast-paced, and always moving.
This is a result of most of them spending so much time in front of computer screens almost from birth. After years of playing video games with their endless action, and screens changing scenes every 3 to 5 seconds, real life seemingly moves along at an agonizing crawl.
Muzzleloader shooting is about as far from fast-paced as you can get.

Mountain winds ! oh ! is it, is it only Where man's trace hath been that so we pine ?
Bear me up to grow in thought less lonely,
Even at natures deepest, loneliest shrine!

A passage from a poem published in 1836.

I must agree with Clyde (sometimes I do not). Who worked to provide kids and grandkids with the things that we never had...Christmas for some in our age group meant something warm to wear and a little something to play with, a pair of "hand me down" wool pants with a hole in one pocket. Help change the monster that we helped create, take your skills to a Scout meeting, help with a youth day at a club shoot. Trust me that you will feel much better for it and perhaps the interest in our great hobby will grow.

WELL alot of you tell me to quit complaining. If i made it sound like a complaint it was not meant to be.
It was a statment as to how i see tecnology affecting what i really enjoy doing.
Others here said i lost my communication skill,s???? never said i had any.
I have been on this site a few years and this is my first and last post, I wasnt looking to butt heads with anyone. At my age i should have known better.

Conversations don't always go the way we want. It is no reason to throw up your hands and walk away muttering under our breath what (insert expletive here) others were....

Agreed!...However, walking into the room and professing that our hobby is going down the tubes and it's "all our children's fault"....Will not go un challenged. Children did not create the world we live in.....WE DID!

Let us own up to that fact! and realize that WE must sow the seeds for future generations.

Don't let the naysayers bother you. There are always a couple of people on this site that wait like vultures, to pounce on new posters.

I call them what they really are. Trolls. They criticize others without adding anything constructive. I doubt they would last long in a real world, face to face forum, before someone set them straight. Straight out on the floor, that is.

Doesn't matter if the poster is a first-timer or a veteran, people will call you if they disagree with what you post. Conflict & disagreement are part of life - it's how you deal with them that will "make or break it"...

That was Kind of harsh......I don't think he is a "naysayer"
Naysayer:
a person who habitually expresses negative or pessimistic views:
At least I hope not!....More likely just frustrated and depressed, lashing out with a rant...It's a common reaction.

Resorting to violence Okawbow?.... :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake: :shake:

The OP's statement was much like walking into a room and telling people a certain thing is impossible to do when the people in the room are already doing it.

If you don't like the way something is, work to change it - organize a kid's day, volunteer at an event, go to schools and present to history classes, help a Scout troop. There are many things a person can do. Much better than sitting back and complaining...

Get'n skeered Clyde?
I just hate to see a new poster scared off by negative one liners as soon as they post.

I was taught to keep my mouth shut if I didn't have anything constructive to add to conversation. The OP was just putting a feeling into words. So what? That shouldn't make him a target for negative and caustic remarks. He didn't say anything that hasn't been said by every generation since the beginning of time.
By the way; my post wasn't directed at you.

By advocating violence, you have already lost the argument.

Disagreement leads to discussion which leads to research which leads to solutions. It is a learning experience for all involved.

I totally agree!..

Moreover, how many of us grow old sitting in our easy chairs, reminiscing of days gone by? Meanwhile, our knowledge, our guns, our equipment withers, rots, and, rusts? While it, along with the knowledge could be passed on to someone.

The reality is that we, "The older generation", are not the best billboards for this sport. Often we are more of an obstacle...A sentry that says " You may not pass". Our ever increasing presence, only appeals to those in our age group....which is disappearing....The younger generations want to be surrounded by people like themselves....
Lets face it! a sport full of senior citizens has zero growth potential when they need to learn everything in their teens or twenties....

Agreed! but let's look at it objectively...

He came into the room, threw an emotional grenade, then declared his stance and left...

Unfortunate, I agree!...But if his intention was (or is) to be a participant...He has a funny way of showing it. :shake:

Jim, please don't leave us. Sure we dig at one another once in a while but we're really all friends. Maybe on this post you had a few shots taken at you but, who knows, maybe on your next post we will be carrying you on our shoulders. It ain't all bad. I've taken my licks, too but, I got up and kept comin' back. Now, the licks are coming fewer and fewer, maybe even rarely. I don't know whether that means that folks are agreeing with me or just ignoring me. :haha:

You had a point and, in my estimation, a well taken one. I didn't think you had poor communication skills. I don't know what that poster was talking about....maybe he didn't either. So, shake it off and come on back. We really do want your thoughts and opinions. That's how we all grow in this hobby.

IM an old guy [SKINNER},I am sad to see the old hunting skills being replaced by tecnology. WE traditional mountainmen & women that still pratice thise skills are a vanishing breed.Replaced by range finders wind meters gps blood tracking instruments camo scentless clothes.amoung many other tec gear. Except for us traditional hunters there is no thing as fair chase no skill needed every thing is done for the new breed of hunter. Our way of hunting and our love of the mt man / long hunter / freetrapper is coming to an end . Not alot of younger people are interested in roondy, wearing [skin,s] cooking on an open fire getting dirty. they can do that right on their puter. VERY SAD. If you would ask a young person who was davy crockett / jim bowie/ daniel boone/ thy would have no clue. Well i guess im done I think i will take the dog and go walk up in the pasture.

Quite true. Society in general has rejected the old ways, traditional ways of not removing the ancient landmarks of our fathers. But that doesn't mean we cannot find and teach those youngsters willing to learn and live them. When I say youngster, they may be 45 years young!

At the same time, most don't know nor care anything about the lives of our ancestors from 500-2000 years ago either.

Keep posting and to hell with the nincompoops.
