Now there's a fine example of learning from ones mistakes!

This has been a great read. Uncle, your rifle has me wanting glass on both the 16" twist .401 and the 24" twist .458 bore. The keratoconus astigmatism and the cataracts are making open and peep sights more difficult.

Telescopic sights have been used in the US since the 1840's. Good old style scopes are not inexpensive but they are worth every penny.

Cleaning between shots makes fouling sort of a non issue I suppose. When I began shooting this rifle I used a lubricated felt wad between the bullet and powder to protect the base of the bullet from hot gases caused by the conflagration of all that powder. One day I left the wads at home, shot the rifle anyway and found accuracy to be better without the wads. I haven't used them since.
They say that using corn or wheat flour, between powder and bullet is the best condition for accuracy. You already used?

This all something I never knew existed... absolutely fascinating. 🤓
Outside of the national matches at Friendship IN there are only 2 places I know of that hold matches for slug rifles: the Blue Mountain Club in PA and the Canal Fulton Ramrod Club in Ohio. So unless you attend one of those matches you will likely never see them. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

I've never owned a bench gun, but if I did I would not want to compete against you Uncle Miltie :ghostly:
Great to see others who also shoot original firearms, excellent video !!
When it comes to long arms I've limited myself to shooting big bore English sporting rifles & Jeagers,
none had a bore the size of your blaster !
