Small flintlock pistols?

Does anyone know where I can buy small flintlock pistol that actually fires? I usually stumble onto sites that sell fake, non-firing pistols or another site that sells pistols that are a foot long. Im looking for a pistol under 7 inches long, can anyone help?

You will have to buy a custom made pistol. If you want that size.
There are quite a few builders that will make you one.
You have to decide what you want to pay.
There are middle range builders.. Both TWM's will build you one. Caywood comes to mind..
There are also high end builders.Mike Brooks, Birddog6,etc. all members here.
For "kit guns" try TOTW.. Muzzle loading builders
supply. TVM, Sittingfox.

A little clarification: do you want a pistol with a 7 inch barrel, or one that's 7 inches overall?

There are a few guys at the Baltimore Antique Arms show every MArch that show off miniature working firearms. For instance a miniature firing model of a Winchester lever action that is only 7 in OAL, I have seen beatiful flint pistols that were only three inches OAL. I can't imagine how much such a thing would bring, probably in the thousands. I remember in particular a very well done small Gemmer Sharps that was only ten inches long and fired 22 shorts. (which proportionately would have been nearly equivalent of a shrunk down 50-70.)

I seem to recall running across a miniature firearm builder/collector site on the web yrs ago.

There are usually some small vest pocket or "muff" flintlock pistols on the on-line auctions. I have managed to acquire 5-6 over the past few years, most locally at antique stores and gun shows.

Percussion kits are available in Europe but I do not know of flintlock kits.

Does anybody know drawings which could be used to build such a flintlock derringer from scratch?

Once ago in a time not so far away, there has been a model, called La Fayette in caliber .41. I found an old advertisement from HEGE in Germany. There was no manufacturer given. It is no longer available.

That helped. Just found them. As far as I have seen, no such "little" Derringer as kit.

Have asked Roy by Email. I'll wait. Asked friend who has been in the US about the paper work with the authorities. He will tell me aafter rechecking some things. Will take some time.

I don't own one of the flintlock box locks but I've heard that some of the modern recreations don't work very well.

I don't know if that was common with the originals but if someone is interested in shooting one of these modern versions they should do a bit of research.

In Germany I am only aware of the former Palmetto's recreation, the so called "La fayette" Derringer as flint lock. No longer available and I can't say more about it.

The percussion recreation of the so called "Philadelphia Derringer" from Ardesa shoots. Though it is only about a 1" rifled barrel you can hit somewhere between 7 and 10 Ring on the 25/50 m ISSF target.

You need to determine how to aim with that pistol and get practice.

Nevertheless, not a target pistol. That is for close range in the elevator. But makes great fun in a while.

Load, I have used a .440 patched round ball with 20 Swiss FFF. Recommended by Ardesa is 16 grain of no special kind of black powder powder.
