There's nothing quite like the smell of a freshly opened can of "real" black powder...

Maybe there should be a men's cologne made in that scent... :winking:

Who else likes this smell?

I even like the smell of burnt black powder...

Guess that's why I love muzzleloading so much...

On Saturday I made a 40 shot range session with a very strong wind in my face...40 shots is a lot of smoke blowing back over you at 15-20mph.

I had several layers of clothes on as it was cold, and when I got in the truck for the drive home, pulled off the heavy hunting shirt and tossed it over on the passenger side of the seat.

Got home, cleaned / washed / dried everything but forgot that shirt...got in the truck this morning and the smell of blackpowder was everywhere...the shirt was saturated with it...smelled good!
:redthumb:

I love the smell of the smoke and carbon(I guess its carbon?). It is a definate comfort smell for sure. Not quite into the taste though.. I was cleaning my barrel at the range between shots this weekend and got some fouling on my fingers which made it into my mouth with the next cleaning patch. Oh Boy! That I can do without!!!

There is: blackpowder smoke (as noted).

Fresh ground coffee.

Roasting malt (even THE ADMIRAL doesn't mind when I do this in the house).

Tapering Cedar arrows.

Flytying head lacquer.

Smoke cured bacon.

Puppy breath.

The inside of a deer (not that I'd want a toothpaste with that odor, but there is nothing like it).

I remember thinking DuPont 4064 was as heavenly a scent as possible. My first reloading was a .30-40 Krag with a mallet and a Lee Handloader set when I was 14. Mmmmmmmm. I used to listen to the Beatle's "Revolver" album as I reloaded. "Good Day, Sunshine" and 4064 still bring each other to mind. :redthumb:

Just wait until you have the joyful experience of having a flint slice on a finger tip, and then get some BP residue in it, you won't be able to put your fingers in your mouth soon enough...it'll makes you fully realize just how much salt there is in BP residue!!

Yep love the smell of BP.

I'll add that I also love the smell of cleaning and maintenance solvents and lubes.

T/C Bore butter smells pretty nice too.

Pyrodex on the other hand is about the nastiest stuff around.

Stumpkiller -- may I add WD-40 to your list? If they made something that tasted like WD-40 smells, I would weigh 1,000 pounds, no problem.

That's kinda like takin' a slug outta the old Vanilla bottl'. What's that? You haven't done it? Go ahead an take a pull! You'll know yer alive!

There are some other lightly scented things things that smell good too but I don't think going there is a good idea.

I love the smell of burnt black powder. I have to admit that I don't know what un-burnt black powder smells like. I'll have to check when I get home.

They smell goes to a primal pave of the brain that is associated with memory. Black powder smoke is among the best.

Will add to the list of smells that are good;

Hoppes (my dad used to clean the muzzleloaders with hoppes solvent when I was a kid).

Ballistol (not a great smell, but not that bad!).

My Gokie snake boots. :shocking:

Mud on the Land Rover manifold

The natural rubber smell from the interior of Grandad's '71 Land Rover - the Brits used real Indian rubber in seals, tires, and floor mats (haven't smelled that in about 20+ years!).

To add to the list, I do have to add that I love the smell of deisel in the winter. Guess it reminds me of when we used to sleep under the hmmwv's and stand next to the exhaust of the Bradley's in the winter to stay warm.

I love the smell of yeast, the fresh stuff getting happy in the kitchen is good, for instance.

But then years back, I lived in the vicinity of the Stroh's brewery and across the straights from the Hiram Walker plant. I tell you there is nothing like stepping outside and getting hit in the nose with a strong fragrance of yeast!

Regards, sse

Fresh ground coffee. Good

Roasting malt (even THE ADMIRAL doesn't mind when I do this in the house). Never tried it

Tapering Cedar arrows. Good

Flytying head lacquer. Is that like model airplane glue?

Smoke cured bacon. Yum

Puppy breath. Yuck

The inside of a deer (not that I'd want a toothpaste with that odor, but there is nothing like it). Double yuck

My workplace is right next to a Coffee Beanery roasting plant. Many times when the wind is right the aroma of roasting coffee beans comes in through the air handling system. Strangely, two minutes later, everyone is gathered around the coffee pot! :haha:
Occasionally, they burn a batch - then, it's a little overpowering

Now the smell of a back strap with onions and mushrooms simmering in a fry pan with a touch of garlic...
It Don't Get Any Better Than That!

Woody

Woodhick: You couldn't have said it any better except for the dutchoven biscuits.
Fox

I make candles and sell them at Renn Faires and SCA events. One of the scents that sells really good to guys is "Woodland Trail". My wife says that smells like dirt and my reply is "Well yeah, thats the point." *lol* She dont git it. :shake:
